Meet Adrian

As a Marsh account executive, I ensure we are meeting our healthcare clients' short-term operational expectations and executing on their long-term strategic initiatives. The benefit of working at Marsh, a business of Marsh McLennan, is that I get to work with my counterparts at Oliver Wyman, Mercer, and Guy Carpenter. It’s incredible seeing how an entire suite of professional services across multiple disciplines comes together to provide a seamless solution for our clients.

How does your work support our company in being the Risk Advisor of the Future?

Healthcare is an industry that affects all of us and influences our lives on many levels. At Marsh, our clients are front and center, grappling with significant and pressing global issues like pandemics, labor shortages, physician burn-out, increase in nuclear verdicts, dynamic legal and regulatory environments, changes in healthcare delivery models, and much more. Our partnerships with our clients produce the strategies and solutions that largely shape the healthcare we will experience in the future.

Tell us about something new you learned recently.

During the pandemic, I started road cycling. It was excellent because the roads were empty at the time, so I felt like they were mine! The most valuable gift cycling has given me is the understanding that sometimes things are just meant to be hard, and having to push through is just part of the process. You learn to accept, embrace, and ultimately grow from it.

Cycling has given me a way to support the causes that matter to me. After my aunt passed away from cancer in 2017, I have participated in the Dolphin Challenge Cancer annual ride every year. Before COVID-19, I did simple 15 to 25-mile rides; however, since COVID, I have worked my way up to the 100-mile events!

Tell us something important about your family or background that helped form the person and colleague you are today.

My father’s job required us to move around a lot when I was growing up, exposing me to a lot of different cultures and environments from a young age. I was born in Mexico and, as a kid, lived in Brazil, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. By the time I graduated high school, I’d gone to 14 different schools. This experience taught me to keep an open mind and cultivate a flexible approach to life.

What’s the best career advice you’ve received?

My grandfather told me to always be willing to change if it means seeing the bigger picture. This advice has helped me repeatedly.

For example, when I came to Marsh, I knew I would get to do meaningful work with clients who are best in class within their industry. At first, I thought it would be as a producer; however, I also had to think about what it means to be a young Latino man in insurance with no network in the industry at this level. Marsh gave me the opportunity to pivot into an account executive position where I can serve my clients and grow a network for the future. This is why other colleagues of Latin heritage and I have invested in connecting a network of Latino sales professionals within Marsh. We hold monthly professional development sessions on topics like how to be a successful sales executive and how to build your network. The talent of the colleagues that I work with has far exceeded my expectations. To be under the Marsh banner, have access to our clients, and see it all come together when we develop a final solution is incredibly satisfying.
