This self-directed and cost-effective plan provides coverage for most aircraft you may own, lease, rent, or borrow and use for private business and pleasure.

Available coverages

1.   Aircraft liability

This covers third-party property damage and bodily injury legal liability. You have the option to either include or exclude passengers from your policy, both up to a maximum limit of $3,000,000.

2.   Ground risk hull (not in motion) for an aircraft you own

This coverage applies to physical loss or damage sustained by your aircraft while on the ground or moored and not-in-motion, or while in transport by another vehicle. Coverage is available for up to a maximum agreed hull value of $600,000.

This coverage benefits Canadian pilots in the following scenarios, among others:

  • You don’t own an aircraft, and you require liability for an aircraft you rent or borrow.
  • You own multiple aircraft, and you want your liability to follow you when you are flying those aircraft.
  • You want the option to insure your aircraft for ground not in motion physical damage coverage.

To qualify for coverage, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Your primary residence must be in Canada.
  2. Your aircraft must be privately registered and intended for private business and pleasure only.
  3. The aircraft must not exceed a maximum seating capacity of seven passengers, excluding the pilot.
  4. You must hold the appropriate licence or permit for the aircraft you are operating.

Yes, MarshWings aircraft liability coverage is not available for balloons, gliders, hang-gliders, airships, paragliders, hovercraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and very light jets.

It also excludes aircraft that fall into the following categories:

  • Foreign-registered aircraft
  • Turbine aircraft
  • Commercially registered aircraft, unless rented or borrowed for private business or pleasure use only
  • Aircraft with more than seven passenger seats
  • Aircraft with a hull value of more than $600,000
  • Aircraft with a permissible takeoff weight of more than 2,721 kilograms (6,000 pounds)
