Meet Lateesha

As the corporate segment leader for Construction, my responsibilities include the execution and delivery of a comprehensive insurance program for clients within the construction industry. I also analyse and compare coverage enhancements and exclusions of the primary and excess placement lines for a broad portfolio of general and trade contractors.

Marsh has a learning culture. Tell us about something new you learned recently. How did you learn it?

This is a great question as Marsh frequently provides virtual and in-person learning sessions regarding various industry-specific topics and will bring in talent and experts from law firms and other third-party resources to help expand our knowledge base for our industry.

Besides our firm's general learning culture, I recently learned that in 2021 Marsh McLennan created a fellowship program called RISE (Racial Inclusion and Social Equity).

This 8-month program is geared towards Black students from the US, UK, and Canada,   currently studying towards or who have recently graduated with an MBA or Master's degree. The fellowship offers an enriching leadership curriculum and provides each fellow with a mentor to further assist them in navigating their career path. Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to be a mentor to one of the RISE fellows. It has been and continues to be a positive and soul-fulfilling experience!

How has Marsh helped you progress toward your professional and personal goals?

First and foremost, having senior leadership that believes in you and sees your potential for greatness is key, and I have the pleasure of having that in my career and life at Marsh.

Last year, I was nominated and selected to participate in Marsh's Black Leadership Program (BLP). Along with 18 other career-minded colleagues, we were provided individual and group sessions nurturing our professional development by introducing tools and skills to enhance our effectiveness as leaders. We were also paired with a coach from an external consulting group and an internal mentor.

I greatly appreciated and found value in having both a coach and mentor, as they have helped me by providing different perspectives when problem-solving. In addition, the assistance they provided in navigating through personal and professional hurdles I've experienced has been invaluable.

How had your education or previous work experience translated to working at Marsh?

Prior to Marsh, I spent the beginning of my 20+ year professional journey on the carrier side. Working at strong insurance carriers such as AIG and Allied World fortified me with a solid foundation in understanding commercial coverage and the pricing of an account. Bringing the tools I've learned throughout the years to Marsh has given me the confidence needed when negotiating coverage and providing clients with the best overall program structure for both primary and excess placement.
